a loaf that stuck to the tin

2025 · 03

New low. I've made flat ones and gummy ones and one that came out like a pale brick, but this week's loaf welded itself to the tin and would not come out. Turned it over. Tapped it. Ran a knife round the edge. Said a few things I won't write down. Got maybe two thirds of it out in bits and the rest is still stuck in there, going hard.

And the annoying part is I thought this was the good one. It had risen. It looked like actual bread. Then it just refused to leave the tin.

M. found me over the wreckage with the knife and offered to nip out and buy a loaf, no I-told-you-so in it at all, which somehow made it worse. Said no on principle. We ate the salvaged bits with far too much butter and decided, loudly, that they were fine.

Tin's soaking. Still undeterred. Mostly.
